You really can’t talk about Joseph Eichler’s homes without mentioning one their most prominent features: the artrium. Perfect for gardening and entertaining, this unique design element is a signature feature of many Eichler homes. While Eichler didn’t invent the atrium, his use of them in his home designs brought the concept into the 20th century and into the hearts of many modern home lovers. August Strotz once said about these living spaces:

“The atrium in my opinion had a tremendous influence on the family life. The family felt much more like a nucleus within. It gave the family a closeness which the normal house doesn’t have.”

The glass walls, the open sky and the touches of green make these atriums a unique part of the Eichler home experience. Here’s a sampling of the many ways these living spaces are being used today by Eichler homeowners. Do you have a favorite?
